Master Gardener volunteer training is held in EVEN numbered years, September through December. There is a $300 fee* for the training. Class size is limited to 25 participants. the next scheduled training will take place beginning September 2012.
There are 10 weeks of classes, followed by two weeks where each trainee gives a 15 minute presentation to the class. For most classes, there are homework assignments. Trainees are required to complete a final exam (take home) when classes end. The last day is a graduation ceremony and luncheon. Graduates receive a certificate, MG shirt and MG nametag. Fellow MG volunteers will serve as mentors to help integrate trainees into the program.
This year, Dutchess County will be combining some of the classes with Putnam County. Some classes will be held in Dutchess, some in Putnam. Trainees often carpool to the Putnam site. Click here to see the dates for the 2012 training, as well as the topics and directions to the Putnam site. Once all speakers have been confirmed, the updated schedule will be sent to all trainees.
* Fee is due upon acceptance to the training and is subject to change in future. Should participant cancel, fee is refundable up until the first day of training, minus $100.
