Xeriscaping is a method of gardening that involves choosing plants that are appropriate for your site and creating a landscape that can be maintained with little supplemental watering. Xeriscaping is important because we only have a finite amount of water and some years, even less than others. By grouping plants according to their water needs, using mulch and drought tolerant plants, you will be conserving on water useage.
A bonus benefit of xeriscaping is that by choosing plants that are suitable for growing in your landscape, you will have a healthier garden that needs less fertilizer and pesticides. This is good for your plants and also for you, because everything you do in your yard and garden will eventually affect nearby bodies of water, including your water source. While we hear a lot from direct "point sources", like industry and factories, homeowners play a hand in it too. Homeowners, considered "nonpoint sources" of pollution, may think the fertilizer and sprays they use on their plants is not excessive, but the combined runoff from all of us "nonpoint sources" is considerable.
Our Xeriscape garden is divided into 4 sections- Rock, Natural, Informal and Formal, to demonstrate several styles of Xeriscape gardens.
