Commercial Horticulture

CCEDC provides many educational programs for the commercial horticulture industry. The audience includes commercial landscapers, arborists, turf managers, greenhouse operators, golf course managers, turf managers, retail garden center personnel, Christmas tree farms, nursery operators, municipal workers and household pest management operators.  We strive to encompass many programs to meet the need of our audience. The following are some of the programs we offer:

ISA Certified Arborist Training Program

This 5 session training program prepares arborists for the ISA Arborist Certification Exam. This program is part of the Hudson Valley Commercial Horticulture Education Program.

NYSDEC Certified Pesticide Applicator Education

NYSDEC Region 3 mandatory Core Training, for potential certified pesticide applicators to prepare them for the NYSDEC certification core and category exams, is offered in the fall and spring. Recertification credits are available at almost all commercial horticulture workshops and conferences. In addition, a 30 hour eligibility training program is conducted each spring and fall through an affiliation with Dutchess Community College. 

Invasive Species

Invasive species are non-native species that can cause harm to the environment or to human health. As a threat to our biodiversity, they have been judged second only to habitat loss.  Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County provides education through workshops and outreach to help people and communities identify and manage invasive species as well as learn about alternatives.

Integrated Pest Management for Christmas Tree Farmers

An education program to teach Christmas tree farmers how to scout and monitor for insects, diseases, vertebrate pests and cultural disorders. 

Urban and Community Forestry (S.W.A.T.) Education Program

We work with communities to begin the planning process for street tree management which is difficult for smaller communities with limited budgets.
