Biomass refers to plant based fuel used for heat production, co-generation of electricity and cellulosic ethanol production. CCEDC is working with farmers and communities to explore biomass for use as a heating fuel by burning the biomass. It can be used in home heating stoves and boilers. Commercial buildings can also install larger biomass furnaces. CCEDC is promoting the production, harvesting and use of perennial grass as biomass. Currently this is a “new” crop that is being grown on small acreages in the county.
