July 15- Emerald ash borer has been detected in a trap in Saugerties, Ulster County. We have reason to believe that the movement of EAB to this new area was due to the movement of firewood, and as summer is now in full swing, we again remind campers throughout the state that they too can help prevent the spread of harmful invasives by not hauling firewood to campgrounds and instead buying firewood locally. New York has more than 900 million ash trees, representing about seven percent of all trees in the state, and all are at risk. To learn more about this invasive pest read the full article from the Department of Environmental Conservation here.
