CCEDC works to extend the educational resources of Cornell University and the New York State Colleges of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Human Ecology and Veterinary Medicine, the Land Grant university system and other educational institutions, to the people of Dutchess County to foster economic, social and environmental improvement of its individuals, families and communities.
CCEDC is a subordinate governmental agency consisting of an unincorporated organization of residents of Dutchess County in cooperation with Cornell University and the United States Department of Agriculture; and in accordance with subdivision 8(b) of section 224 of the County Law as amended. CCEDC is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of members of the community, and each program area has its own advisory committee.
CCEDC works through four main program areas: Agriculture & Horticulture, Environment and Energy, Family & Consumer Education and 4-H Youth Development. Click the links below for more information on our organization:
Through enrollment in CCEDC, you support our mission and benefit by receiving four issues of our quarterly newsletter, Land & Living, filled with articles of useful information from our program areas. You also receive our calendar and report of activities each year as well as educational and program information form the areas you indicate on your enrollment form. Just print and fill out the CCEDC Enrollment Form and mail it to the address on the form.
There are numerous opportunities to volunteer with CCEDC! In 2010, over 1,000 dedicated volunteers, whose combined efforts are worth over $4.2 million dollars (2008 Independent Sector), contributed over 208,000 hours to help advance our programs! For more information, contact the staff working with volunteers in each of our four program areas, in compliance with the Cornell Cooperative Extension Volunteer Involvement Policy and Volunteer Code of Conduct.
As a 501c3 non-profit organization, CCEDC relies on funding from core county dollars, federal, state and local foundation grants, and donations from individuals. Please consider making a donation today to extend the programs CCEDC provides to the community.
The Millbrook Fire Department recently made a very generous donation of an AED (Automatic Electronic Defibrillator) to CCEDC. On April 24th, five staff members were trained on how to use it and to perform CPR in case of an emergency.
