Teaching Children About Agriculture and Our Environment through 1-Day In-School Programs!
Ag in the Classroom provides curriculum enrichment to elementary schools throughout Dutchess County. Each year, a new book showcasing a different agricultural theme is chosen, and volunteers throughout the state will read the book, second, and third grade classes. Each class receives a copy of the book for their library and other additional educational materials. Some themes that have been used in the past include: maple syrup, flowers and apples.
2011 NY Agriculture Literacy Week was March 20th-25th. This year we highlighted the NY Poultry Industry with the book Chicks & Chickens, by Gail Gibbons. Please encourage your teachers to ask for this program in their schools! The Ag Literacy Week Program already reaches more than 900 youth throughout Dutchess County each year. We are also always looking for volunteer readers. There is no charge for the program. Contact Kelly Parker 845-677-8223 x108 for more information.
