Youth Showcase their Sewing & Modeling Skills in a 4-H Fashion Show!
Each year, youth in the General Interest 4-H Program select patterns, purchase materials, and work, with the help of their 4-H leaders, to create a garment that they are proud of. At the conclusion of the garment construction program, the members gather for their annual Fashion Revue and show off their year’s work.
Each youth must meet the requirements for participation which include, completing a garment creation worksheet, writing a commentary, and learning to model. 4-H leaders and volunteers guide them through this process and encourage youth to attend clinics offered by the 4-H office.
There is also an opportunity for youth who do not wish to sew their garments. The purchased garment category requires youth to research the items that they wish to purchase, and do a price comparison. They are also required to complete a research journal explaining why they selected the items they did. Finally, they are also expected to write a commentary and learn to model.
The theme for the 2009 Fashion Revue was "Hollywood". The theme for 2010 is "Under the Sea."
Other opportunites for Fashion Revue participants include modeling at the New York State Fair and participating in the Western 4-H Roundup-FCS Classic, which is the National 4-H event held each year in Denver, Colorado.
